The 2017 Wood Award goes to Rest Area Niemenharju where wood component supplier was Versowood Oy. The wood prize is awarded annually for items where wood has been used in a way that promotes building technology. The prize has been awarded since 1994 and this year the prize was in the place of twentieth. The prize is awarded by Puuinfo.

A total of nearly 30 proposals were received for the wood prize competition. rest Area Niemenharju won the 2017 Wood Prize and the honorary mention was awarded to Allas Sea Pool and the winner of public voting was the Youth Center Marttinen´s VIHTA lakeside sauna.

As its grounds for the award, the jury states the following: “Rest Area Niemenharju represents extremely high-quality and distinctive Finnish wood architecture that does not need any stylistic loans. Use of wood on the site is technically superb. At Niemenharju, nature and architecture are naturally blended with each other. Finnish nature becomes a part of the architecture of the building. Visitors who enter the building also experience the presence of nature."

In May 2017 british website Designcurial listed Rest Area Niemenharju as the world's finest petrol station. It is certainly worth stopping. Niemenharju is located on European highway E75 in Pihtiputaa about 140 km north from Jyväskylä.
